As I reflect on 2011 the two primary themes that have dominated the year were better collaboration and improved business process. Especially, from the view point of our existing and new customers, better project and portfolio management meant better access to project information mapped to their unique business processes and needs. Having the ability to effectively share strategic and relevant project information in a controlled environment to stakeholders meant better decision making and improved performance across projects and portfolios. As a result, in 2011 we have seen the emergence of a more mature project organization that is seeking a highly strategic and more inclusive project management framework to deploy across their business.

In light of this reality, it is most fitting that our final newsletter in 2011 highlight some of our thoughts around collaboration and business processes by providing excellent insights on the benefits of improving your document management strategy and the critical processes impacting NPD projects.

NPD PROJECT PROTOTYPING: Benchmarking the People behind the Products
By Neil Stolovisky

Prototyping Successful new product development (NPD) projects start with a great idea and are executed with the right plan. Pooling resources and sharing information among stakeholders are as critical to the success of an NPD project as the project itself. The effective resource planning at this stage will serve as a benchmark to what resources will be required when moving to full production, as well as the organization’s ability to deliver on its expectations.

In this paper, I will be focusing on the impact resources have on the prototyping stage in new product development projects and the future role project stakeholders can have on the final results of a new product’s success or failure.
